Big Girl Already

Today Adelyn is 2 months old...8 weeks, and my how time flies! Her newest obsessions include:

Looking EVERYWHERE! She gets so mad should we dare to sit down, she wants to be walked around with constantly. Basically Addie is an owl, moving her head in every direction with big, pretty eyes trying to take in everything. It's like she was blind before- its fun to watch her. Although it's cute, being so curious has its drawbacks. For one, nursing is now "snacking" since looking around is WAY more fun. And sleeping is a mundane task, I have to convince her that it's necessary and its becoming a struggle for her to want to stop looking around and close her eyes.

She also is discovering that she has a body! As silly as that sounds, she has found her hands (loves those) and just recently her feet. She has an amazing talent of kicking off her booties, don't believe me? Just watch the video below. Sorry for the poor filming skills- I was a little absorbed in watching her instead of watching how the camera was being moved.

.....Well nevermind! Apparently I can't upload that video.

Adelyn is also getting so strong, she's always had a strong neck, but her back, legs and whole body are starting to push, arch, and kick constantly. Surprisingly enough, she enjoyed tummy time yesterday for a good ten minutes! Wow! What a relief. (Notice how she's wide-eyed and looking around)

And..drum roll please.............................BATHS ARE GOOD NOW!!!! The last couple of baths were better, but last night- no crying at all!!! We even got some good smiles, during and after! Whoooo!! I am so excited that bath time may not be such a dreaded even now (I say "may" because that will probably change the minute this blog is posted). But at least we know that things are getting better, maybe being clean isn't so bad after all :)

Silly Addie!

Addie is getting so big so quickly! On our way back from the baptism in Lompoc (see below) we stopped by to see our friends Brad and Danielle and their new baby, Connor. Connor is only 4 hours younger than Adelyn, so it was fun for them to meet each other for the first time and compare sizes. As you can see from the picture, Addie is a little smaller- however, both Brad and Danielle are quite a bit taller than Jared and I :)
This morning I woke up to find Adelyn nearly out of her bouncer, with her leg sticking out, and her head buried in her blanket. Pretty funny! I guess I'd better start buckling her in, she's getting to be quite the little squirmer. Here are more pictures of her- I'm sure ya'll are getting sick of looking at her, but she's just so darn cute I can't help but post every cute picture I have! So those of you who are sick of looking at Addie- you better not check my blog for the next 18 or so years! :)

As a side note: Adelyn's baby blessing will be December 27, in Phoenix- all are welcome to come, and those who can't, we'll miss ya and wish you could be there.

Saturday, Jared and I battled the weather in order to be there for Jared's niece and nephew's baptism. Jared was the one who got to baptise them so that was really special for both him, and Samantha and Taylor. Everythig went really smoothly (from what I saw of it- Adelyn was restless) and both the primary and young women's teachers gave good talks. It was a neat experience for everyone, and I'm glad that we were able to go and make it there safely. The spirit was strong there, it's always nice to go to events such as these, to remember the promises made.

The Hilight of my Day

Here are some pictures for those of you who would like to see more (ie Mom and Jeanni). Addie has also started to sort of laugh- it really sounds like she is crying, but when I look at her she's smiling. It's pretty funny to randomly hear a high-pitched screech every once and awhile, but it's been an adventure trying to capture it on video since she's so sporadic about it still. It just makes us so happy when she's so smiley and happy- which unfortunately for Jared is mostly only in the morning after he's already left for work.

Her latest obsession has been mirrors. When I'm holding her and walk towards the big mirror near our bathroom she just stares intensely. Its like watching someone play that game where you have to memorize all the objects before they get taken away and you have to recite them and where they were at. She is so alert and loves to look at everything. She often stares down Jared- trying to study his face. It's really cute to watch, she just loves her daddy.

5 weeks old!

I can't believe our little Addie is already over 5 weeks old now! Since being pregnant, I've started to understand that time really does go fast- already I can't believe that she was ever in my tummy...and now a month's already gone by! Where does the time go??

Adelyn has been doing really well this week, almost too good...makes me nervous that somethings coming. She has slept at least four hours at a time during the night since Monday, and just last night, she slept from 10:30-5:20!! That's seven hours!!!! I was so shocked, and not even a peep from her when she woke up (unless grunting counts). What a little angel! But like I mentioned, I'm trying not to get my hopes up since next week she'll probably go back to sleepless nights again. But cross your fingers for us that it stays this way! :)

Addie is really starting to smile a lot now. She is pretty ticklish, and loves having her dad play "running" with her legs. I just love it when she gives little smiles, it makes me that much happier to know she's happy too.
At least once a day, I try to give her some personal play time so I usually put her underneath this baby play thing we have. She actually does really well, and loves to look at the animals hanging above her. We have such a good girl!

Lately, I've been putting her in this sling that Jared's sister, Jeanni gave to us, and she's been loving it! I just pop her in there when she's fussy and go walking around outside (which she also loves) and she goes to sleep, or hushes up within seconds. Its great! Thank you so much for giving it to us!

Bath times have also become more pleasant, though we only have about a 5 minute time frame. She's good until about then- and then she's ready to get out. But for now we are satisfied with five minutes of relaxation.

As of this week, Addie has discovered her hands and now sucks on them as soon as she can find them. Blowing bubbles is also a new thing-and she just loves to make a mess slobbering everywhere. She also has a special talent of doing her own hair already. I didn't even touch her hair (which is sadly now falling out a bit) and I realized all of a sudden that she had a pretty little hairdo going. We are not purpously trying to raise a punk-rocker, but I guess if that's who she want to be... I suppose we can allow it :)We put up the Christmas decorations yesterday, and Addie loves to look at the lights! She just lays there staring at them in awe, its pretty cute. We are so excited for Christmas this year- I am particularly excited for Santa to visit and I am trying to get Addie hyped about it- so far she doesn't really share my excitement. Maybe next year...

Jared and I were talking the other night about how everyone thinks that Addie looks just like Jared. So we got a little curious and brought out his baby book.....if there was any doubt before who she looked like, these pictures sure clear it up! We couldn't stop laughing - they look too similar!

Here's Addie:

Adelyn has a wide variety of facial expressions- most of which are only when she's sleeping. Can't wait for her to start making these faces when she's awake!

Thank you, Thank you!!!

Just wanted to say a special thank you to our family that came out to help us with Adelyn. My family came out the day after she was born and helped us all get back to "good" health. And Jared's mom just left and helped us get some sanity back. We couldn't have done it without you guys- we are truly blessed to have such amazing families who are willing to help us while we learn to transition into this new life. Thanks for all the cooking, cleaning, and naps you helped us out with- it was so kind of you to come and be there with us. Thank you so much!!! We love you!

Making Progress!

We went in to Addie's 2 week check up today to make sure she got her baby weight back. She is now 8lbs. and 7 oz. (2 oz. more than her birth weight) which is great considering she was 7lbs. 11oz. last Friday. She grew a half inch too, making her 20 1/2 inches long! She's pooping and peeing like crazy and still considers the day time her sleeping time (unfortunately for us) but each day she'll sleep a little longer through the night- so at least there is progress! Adelyn is so much more alert every day and she smiles a lot while she's asleep. Jared loves to bounce her around in the "priesthood hold" which makes us excited that maybe- just maybe, she'll be quiet during her baby blessing which will probably be the beginning of December. We just love our little girl she's so good and such a wonderful addition to our family!

Adelyn Marie Bass

Our little bundle of joy has finally arrived! At 6:30am on the 22nd my water broke, starting the day off early. We got into the hospital around 9ish after a very long time trying to get out the door (I had to annoyingly change my clothes very often). I got the epidural around sometime around noon or after- I wasn't especially interested in the time with all the contractions going on. At 8:16 pm our little Addie was born being a whopping 8lbs and 2oz and 20 inches long and just as pretty as ever. We just love our little girl, she is so good. Besides her favorite hobby of sleeping the entire day and enjoying the night life, she is perfect. Hardly ever cries and is becoming so alert each and every day. Her umbilical cord fell off today at her Pediatrician's check up so we are looking forward to giving her a bath hopefully tomorrow. We love our little Adelyn and love being new parents!

Pumpkin Patch

For my birthday this weekend, we went to this pumpkin patch/Fall festival in the middle of the mall parking lot. They had a lot of cool inflatable toys and fun games and rides you could go on. Jared had me pick up a pumpkin and compare it to my stomach.

You know your ready to deliver when.....

Your stomach is bigger than a pumpkin!

Anyways it was a fun thing to go do, we just love this time of year because there is so many fun things to go do. Hope y'all are having a great time with the many changes Fall brings!

38 weeks and counting...

Just a quick update on how the baby's coming along...
Only 13 days left until the official due date(October 26) and I went in today to see what progress is being made. To my relief, the baby has almost dropped all the way (or at least getting there) which was my guess(due to two great nights sleep without her in my ribs) and 1cm dilated!! Yahoo! I know this really doesn't mean a whole lot, it could still be the full two weeks or more until she comes, but it gives me hope that she's at least headed in the right direction(no pun intended). So I was pretty thrilled to hear that there was some progress made. I gained 3 pounds since last week, and 2 the week before, so I'm starting to think she won't be such a small baby like I had hoped. I've gained 32 pounds since the first time I went in to the doctors so I told my doctor the baby has to come next week since I'm not wanting to gain more than 35 pounds. Think baby is listening? Probably not. But I can still hope right? Blood pressure is great, I'm measuring right on, so everything is going really well medically. Jared and I are taking the Lamaze classes, our last one is Thursday night, which have been very informative to say the least. Fortunately for me, Jared is paying close attention- they just freak me out that my body is going to do all this wonderful stuff. But I'm excited that I'll have a great coach, I have no doubt Jared will be fantastic at keeping me calm and helping me in any way he can. With the birthing classes out of the way, all we need is the baby, and I think we're just about ready!

Black Cat Cookies

These are one of my favorite desserts my mom makes, and they are a cute way to bring in the Fall/ Halloween spirit. Don't look too closely at these pictures- artistic talent is something I've always lacked so these are SUPPOSED to look like cats (last year a batch resembled bats, and Jared had to create all the rest so that they would actually look like cats). Good thing I married someone who has artistic talent!
1 C butter
2 C sugar
2 eggs
3 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. baking powder
3 C flour
1 C cocoa
candy corn
Cream butter and sugar together. Mix in eggs, vanilla, and add all dry ingredients. Form 1 1/2" circles, place on cookie sheet and flatten with a glass dipped in sugar (to make sugar stick on glass, get greased by pressing on batter inside bowl first, then dipping in sugar). Form "ears" and whiskers with fork. Bake 10-12 minutes at preheated 350 degrees. Add candy corn eyes and red hot nose (or broken candy corn) immediately after removing from oven. Move to cooling rack AFTER adding candy. Enjoy!

P.S. the chances are looking more and more promising of having a Halloween baby. Unfortunately, with less than 3 weeks until the due date, baby still hasn't dropped yet and I'm not dialated either. My doctor brought up good news though- she said we WILL have an October baby, if she doesn't come on my due date, she'll induce me a week after. Technically a week after is in November, so I'm not sure how that will work, but good will be here within 3-4 weeks!

Jared's work put on a soccer competition between different offices/areas in Southern California Saturday. Being a long time player of soccer, of course this was an event he wasn't going to miss out on. Unfortunately, the beautiful parks and wonderful weather seem to go to waste around here as far as Jared is concerned-since we've moved here, he hasn't found any leagues, single adult groups, or anyone around here that plays soccer, and he's been missing it dearly. So he was very excited for this opportunity to get out there and play one of his favorite sports.
Jared did really well (I thought) though if you ask him, he thinks he could have played better. One good thing about my husband is he is always pushing himself to do better-though he doesn't ever give himself a break either. Despite how he thought he did, he bumped the ball on his head(very impressive :) ) and scored one of two points for his team during one game. Way to go Hun! His "Green" team played two games, which unfortunately they lost both, but I think the team had a good time getting out there and playing despite what the score board said. I was glad Jared got the chance to do something he loves for the afternoon- he deserves it after all the long hours he puts into everything else. Great job Hun and I'm glad you had a fun time!
**Jared is the one in the grey shirt and navy stripped pants.**
