Saturday we heard that the waves were huge, so we decided to go take a look. The waves were probably over 15-20ft in height, so only experienced wave riders were in the water(or even allowed near the water). There were about five lifeguards on land not letting the public in or near the water, with lifeguards on boats nearby just waiting for disaster to happen. Apparently on Friday an experienced swimmer actually got too close to the jetty and the waves pinned him up against the sharp rocks, injuring him very badly. It took awhile for the lifeguards to rescue him, and even after being rushed to the hospital, he unfortunately died there. Even on shore the current is so strong, nobody was allowed to touch the water or even have their feet in. We took pictures shortly after getting there, but the camera doesn't do justice. They don't even look like big waves, so I won't post them up. But it was a really fun thing to go see, even after spending about 45 minutes attempting to find a place to park. :)
