We had a lot of fun relaxing and talking to Grandma. She bought ice cream for us to finish off- Jared didn't have too difficult of a time making sure that was gone before leaving. Jared loved jumping in the pool at every chance he got, but missed his brothers and family to swim with. :( It's not too fun to swim by yourself.
After a few days at Grandma's house, we drove up to visit Jared's mom and Steve in their beach house on Gasparilla Island, which was named after a pirate that supposedly buried treasure there. Unfortunately we did not find the treasure- but we did have a blast doing lots of fun things with them. The boys went fishing early the first morning we were there and Jared caught about a 50lb snook fish! They didn't get a picture because apparently when he was reeling it in, Steve was trying to get it to hold still or something but it gave one last jump and jumped right off the hook before they had a chance to have proof of their catch...maybe next time. Below is Jared about to head out the door to go fishing. I really like this picture of him and his mom together.
While the boys were gone fishing, Cindi and I drove around the island and she showed me all the beach houses there were. Apparently there are 300 houses total on this island, but it didn't seem like there could be that many considering the island didn't seem too big. While exploring, we saw a gopher turtle! They are called that because they burrow in the ground like a gopher, but I was surprised at how fast they moved. There was cool wildlife everywhere on the island! From cute little crabs to dolphins and manatees and pelicans. I was a little disappointed not to see a manatee, but they keep the boats moving in certain areas so they don't scratch up the manatees so I assume its a little harder to see one unless your boating where you're not supposed to be. The dolphins were great though! I'd never seen so many that close before, I think I saw at least one on every boat ride we went on- it was amazing! Cindi and I also painted coconut shells which was really fun. I am certainly not a painter so it was fun to learn new things from the pro. I made a nemo fish and Jared finished one side of my beach scene on the other coconut. Cindi made a beach scenery also, and a blue fish (I think hers turned out a lot better than mine- but it was still a fun project to do!). The picture below shows behind us the kind of fish Jared caught that day.
That night Steve and Cindi cooked us a seafood dinner like I have never had before! It was delicious, with the shrimp, scallops, crab, corn on the cob, and potatoes. Man it was so good! The day after was the day we drove up to Grandma's, but not after a little shopping trip with Cindi. That was a lot of fun, and Cindi was nice enough to get us a maternity clothes and Gator drinking glasses(which Jared and I have been using a lot since coming back). Thank you Cindi and Steve!
It was a really fun trip and I really want to go back again- maybe in the winter when it's not too warm- though I can't say it was too bad when we went, it was only in the early 90's the entire time we were there. Thanks to all the family we saw, we had a great time! Florida is beautiful and it was fun to explore the different parts of that state, we were glad we could go to visit!
