Adelyn Marie Bass

Our little bundle of joy has finally arrived! At 6:30am on the 22nd my water broke, starting the day off early. We got into the hospital around 9ish after a very long time trying to get out the door (I had to annoyingly change my clothes very often). I got the epidural around sometime around noon or after- I wasn't especially interested in the time with all the contractions going on. At 8:16 pm our little Addie was born being a whopping 8lbs and 2oz and 20 inches long and just as pretty as ever. We just love our little girl, she is so good. Besides her favorite hobby of sleeping the entire day and enjoying the night life, she is perfect. Hardly ever cries and is becoming so alert each and every day. Her umbilical cord fell off today at her Pediatrician's check up so we are looking forward to giving her a bath hopefully tomorrow. We love our little Adelyn and love being new parents!

Pumpkin Patch

For my birthday this weekend, we went to this pumpkin patch/Fall festival in the middle of the mall parking lot. They had a lot of cool inflatable toys and fun games and rides you could go on. Jared had me pick up a pumpkin and compare it to my stomach.

You know your ready to deliver when.....

Your stomach is bigger than a pumpkin!

Anyways it was a fun thing to go do, we just love this time of year because there is so many fun things to go do. Hope y'all are having a great time with the many changes Fall brings!

38 weeks and counting...

Just a quick update on how the baby's coming along...
Only 13 days left until the official due date(October 26) and I went in today to see what progress is being made. To my relief, the baby has almost dropped all the way (or at least getting there) which was my guess(due to two great nights sleep without her in my ribs) and 1cm dilated!! Yahoo! I know this really doesn't mean a whole lot, it could still be the full two weeks or more until she comes, but it gives me hope that she's at least headed in the right direction(no pun intended). So I was pretty thrilled to hear that there was some progress made. I gained 3 pounds since last week, and 2 the week before, so I'm starting to think she won't be such a small baby like I had hoped. I've gained 32 pounds since the first time I went in to the doctors so I told my doctor the baby has to come next week since I'm not wanting to gain more than 35 pounds. Think baby is listening? Probably not. But I can still hope right? Blood pressure is great, I'm measuring right on, so everything is going really well medically. Jared and I are taking the Lamaze classes, our last one is Thursday night, which have been very informative to say the least. Fortunately for me, Jared is paying close attention- they just freak me out that my body is going to do all this wonderful stuff. But I'm excited that I'll have a great coach, I have no doubt Jared will be fantastic at keeping me calm and helping me in any way he can. With the birthing classes out of the way, all we need is the baby, and I think we're just about ready!

Black Cat Cookies

These are one of my favorite desserts my mom makes, and they are a cute way to bring in the Fall/ Halloween spirit. Don't look too closely at these pictures- artistic talent is something I've always lacked so these are SUPPOSED to look like cats (last year a batch resembled bats, and Jared had to create all the rest so that they would actually look like cats). Good thing I married someone who has artistic talent!
1 C butter
2 C sugar
2 eggs
3 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. baking powder
3 C flour
1 C cocoa
candy corn
Cream butter and sugar together. Mix in eggs, vanilla, and add all dry ingredients. Form 1 1/2" circles, place on cookie sheet and flatten with a glass dipped in sugar (to make sugar stick on glass, get greased by pressing on batter inside bowl first, then dipping in sugar). Form "ears" and whiskers with fork. Bake 10-12 minutes at preheated 350 degrees. Add candy corn eyes and red hot nose (or broken candy corn) immediately after removing from oven. Move to cooling rack AFTER adding candy. Enjoy!

P.S. the chances are looking more and more promising of having a Halloween baby. Unfortunately, with less than 3 weeks until the due date, baby still hasn't dropped yet and I'm not dialated either. My doctor brought up good news though- she said we WILL have an October baby, if she doesn't come on my due date, she'll induce me a week after. Technically a week after is in November, so I'm not sure how that will work, but good will be here within 3-4 weeks!

Jared's work put on a soccer competition between different offices/areas in Southern California Saturday. Being a long time player of soccer, of course this was an event he wasn't going to miss out on. Unfortunately, the beautiful parks and wonderful weather seem to go to waste around here as far as Jared is concerned-since we've moved here, he hasn't found any leagues, single adult groups, or anyone around here that plays soccer, and he's been missing it dearly. So he was very excited for this opportunity to get out there and play one of his favorite sports.
Jared did really well (I thought) though if you ask him, he thinks he could have played better. One good thing about my husband is he is always pushing himself to do better-though he doesn't ever give himself a break either. Despite how he thought he did, he bumped the ball on his head(very impressive :) ) and scored one of two points for his team during one game. Way to go Hun! His "Green" team played two games, which unfortunately they lost both, but I think the team had a good time getting out there and playing despite what the score board said. I was glad Jared got the chance to do something he loves for the afternoon- he deserves it after all the long hours he puts into everything else. Great job Hun and I'm glad you had a fun time!
