I Hope they Call Me on a Mission/ Birthday Celebrations

How has it possibly been two years already??? My long lost brother has come home from a mission in Argentina! Everyone was so excited to see him and pick him up from the airport! Luckily, his plane flew in at a good time, and we were able to go too! The kids surprisingly adjusted to him really quickly (considering Addie was 2 and Dallin was 6 months when he left) which was nice. We all thought he'd grown taller, his farmer's tan is hilarious, and he is more mature and talkative now, but other than that, he's the same ol' Pookie we know!

Then it was fun because a week and a half later, Kara, and my grandparents drove into town for his homecoming talk in church! My grandparents live in Idaho, so it's exciting whenever we get to see them since they live farther away.We love having a group together for late nights, games and laughter- so this was a great weekend for us!  Plus, my grandparents stayed at our house, so that made it even more fun! After Spencer's talk, we had a "party" that night where both sets of grandparents came, and my aunt Jeanette and her kids.

And to make the weekend even more exciting, it was Jared's and my grandpa's birthdays! They both share January 18th so we got to celebrate their birthdays together! I made one of Jared's favorite meals and then we did birthday desserts as a group, which was a mint birthday cake, ice cream, and brownies. Jared got 2 pairs of new shoes, vanilla wafers, a gift card and dart board. Fun stuff!

I am so glad Spencer returned safely from an honorable mission, and that we could all celebrate his return and birthdays all in one jam-packed weekend!

park, presents, and pestering

The start of the year has kept us busy, busy, busy! Here are some fun activities we've done the past few weeks around here.

Thunderbird park- Jared wasn't feeling too well January 1st so I left sleeping Trevin with him and took Addie and Dallin to go get some fresh air. This is one of our favorite parks! The kids had a great time playing and doing a picnic- they were good and worn out!

Present Playing- I have had a stash of gift bags that I've kept hidden under Dallin's crib that no one but Jared and I knew about....until recently. Adelyn and Dallin found it, and decided to use them all to wrap up toys around the house. Since our Christmas tree was still up, Addie insisted they go under it and we all open presents when Jared got home from work. They were pretty proud of their wrapping skills! I thought it was cute- and they stayed busy playing for a LONG time which gave me lots of time to do things around the house....but I wasn't terribly thrilled at the humongous mess this left me at the end of the day. I have been keeping all these gift bags (and re-gifting them) since Addie's baby shower...that is a lot of birthdays, baby showers, and Christmas'!!!

And lastly, pestering each other. These pictures of Dallin and Trevin couldn't be more descriptive of their brotherly dynamic.

Yeah. That basically sums it all up!

Christmas & The New Year

Christmas and the New Year were both pretty low key events this year. Garrett and Kara drove down from California and Whitney joined us Christmas Eve and morning, so it was fun to have some company with us! Christmas Eve was done at my parents house with the annual pudding contest, and nativity reenactment. Addie of course had to be Mary (she is always the girl in any story), Dallin was Joseph, and Jared was a shepherd. Trevin got to be baby Jesus this year :). Then we went home, sent the excited kids to bed and had a little party of our own getting presents ready and hanging out with Jesse, Wes, Garrett, Kara, and Whitney- who stayed the night.

Christmas was super exciting this year since the kids were one year older and wiser about what was going on. Dallin still didn't completely understand the whole thing- but Adelyn was quick to fill him in! I was happier that he understood and could tell us about Jesus' birth instead. I was particularly excited  for Christmas morning since I'd gotten Jared and xbox kinnect- which he has been wanting for years! I was really excited to surprise him with it complete with games and controllers that Jesse had so nicely gotten for us! He was pretty happy about it, and has been putting it to good use so far!

Dallin and Addie got a lot of "Frozen" toys since that's their favorite movie now but they also got other things like bikes! Those have been great and well needed- the kids enjoy riding them. Santa had a hard time thinking of things to get Trevin this year. Since he already has clothes, baby toys, and doesn't eat food yet, he was at a little bit of a dilemma.......which meant Trevin got precisely that! Clothes, baby toys, and baby food! Poor Santa was out of original ideas and knew Trevin would be content with anything (or nothing) this year. :)

A day before new years, Adam Gent came into town to ring in the new year with us! Then, some friends in our ward invited us to come over for soup and fireworks, so we were happy to go over and have fun! Addie got the chance to ride on a small dirt bike (with an adult of course) around their backyard, which was pretty enjoyable for her. Then we headed outside for some fireworks which Addie was thrilled about, but Dallin wanted nothing to do with. He was content in my arms and as far back as possible- which is humorous to me because out of all our kids, I would expect him to be the one who'd be all over that kind of thing! Maybe next year! After we went home, we ended up watching episodes of Duck Dynasty and the boys played soccer or football on the xbox. Jared and I actually went to bed earlier than midnight (we've gotten enough opportunities to stay up late the last few weeks and were exhausted!) which was fine by us! A "happy new year" kiss goodnight! :) Hope this year is full of as much enjoyment as the last! Bring on 2014!
